Climate Change and Poverty

The European Union and WWF-Pakistan recently collaborated to mark Climate Diplomacy Day. Under the short documentary competition, Imtiaz Abbasi's documentary highlighting the impacts of climate change on the community of Dadu, won first prize.

Pakistan contains a diverse topography of geographical features and is home to incredibly diverse flora and fauna.

Over the last century, lack of understanding and awareness has led to human practices that have exploited the country’s natural resources without replenishing them.

A growing population and increasing infrastructure needs have also led to the decimation of animal habitats and forests, and resulted in loss and endangerment of animal and plant species only found in Pakistan.

With an urgent need for an organization to meet and counter these growing conservation and environment issues, WWF-Pakistan was formed in 1970.

"Potholer54" and "Potholer54debunks", has become well known for making videos about various scientific topics, such as the science behind global warming, age of the earth and arguments used by young earth creationists to claim the earth and/or universe are young, and for videos on how tricks of the trade in journalism can be used to fool viewers.

For example, his video about how climate change skeptics have claimed that the earth has been cooling since 1998 has been featured on Boing Boing, where Maggie Koerth-Baker has called it "true skepticism at its best."

...is also well known for making videos debunking the claims made by comic artist Neal Adams, proponent of the Expanding Earth theory, and Christopher Monckton, 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley about climate change science in public presentations; Hadfield's series on this topic is entitled "Monckton Bunkum."

A back-and-forth ensued, in which Monckton responded to Hadfield's video series about him on Watts Up With That?, whereupon Hadfield replied in turn.

Westeros are facing an existential threat from an army of the Dead that is steadily marching south for total war which would likely end with the extinction of mankind but some characters are content to ignore that threat and focus on internal politics instead sound familiar.

Many viewers and bloggers are seeing the blockbuster HBO show as making a statement using the White Walkers as an analogy for climate change I think they may be on to something?!?!

There is no country in the world that is not experiencing first-hand the drastic effects of climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, and are now more than 50 percent higher than their 1990 level. Further, global warming is causing long-lasting changes to our climate system, which threatens irreversible consequences if we do not take action now.

 The annual average losses from earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones and flooding amount to hundreds of billions of dollars, requiring an investment of US$6 billion annually in disaster risk management alone.

The goal aims to mobilize $100 billion annually by 2020 to address the needs of developing countries and help mitigate climate-related disasters. Helping more vulnerable regions, such as land locked countries and island states, adapt to climate change must go hand in hand with efforts to integrate disaster risk measures into national strategies.

It is still possible, with the political will and a wide array of technological measures, to limit the increase in global mean temperature to two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This requires urgent collective action.

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

You can find a scientific paper that says practically anything and the press which I count you as part of the press will sometimes find a single paper so here's a new truth if this study holds it but an emergent scientific truth for it to become an objective truth the truth that is true, whether or not you believe in it requires more than one scientific paper, it requires a whole system of people's research. 

All leaning in the same direction all pointing to the same consequences that's what we have with climate change as induced by human conduct this is a known correspondence.

Professor of the History of Science and Affiliated Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences. She arrived at Harvard in 2013 after spending 15 years as Professor of History and Science Studies at the University of California, San Diego, and Adjunct Professor of Geosciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Professor Oreskes’s research focuses on the earth and environmental sciences, with a particular interest in understanding scientific consensus and dissent.

Her 2004 essay “The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change” (Science 306: 1686) has been widely cited, both in the United States and abroad, including in the Royal Society’s publication, “A Guide to Facts and Fictions about Climate Change," in the Academy-award winning film, An Inconvenient Truth, and in Ian McEwan’s novel, Solar.

Her opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Times (London), Nature, Science, The New Statesman, Frankfurter Allgemeine and elsewhere. Her 2010 book, Merchants of Doubt: How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco to Global warming, co-authored with Erik M. Conway, was shortlisted for the Los Angeles Time Book Prize, and received the 2011 Watson-Davis Prize from the History of Science Society.

Abstract 
Water is a multidimensional issue, involving water availability, access to freshwater, spatial and temporal distribution of resources, competition among its uses, ecosystems conservation, climate-related disasters and risks and several other aspects. The water security approach manages such complexity and proposes a comprehensive view of human security in relation to the water-related issues. Consequently, the solutions developed in order to face this multi-faceted concept should reflect its thorough vision. The aim of the present work is to investigate the relationship between climate change and water security. Exploring such a relationship is truly important in order to help policy-makers in the development of adaptation and mitigation strategies. In the water context, this challenge is further complicated by the possible conflicts arising between climate and water policies. In order to carry out such an analysis, an indicator measuring water security, namely the Water Security Index, is created. In the present work, climate change is considered from four different perspectives but, as revealed by the econometric results, it always has a predominant (negative) effect on water security.
